Character design, treated as design
There is a gap between a character that looks striking in the preview and one you still want to talk to on day seven. That gap is almost never about the model — it is about which settings you spent your attention on, and whether you tested the result before committing to it.
A character is not a description you write once. It is a draft you correct three times.
The builder splits into two layers that behave very differently. Appearance settings make a character recognisable and consistent — worth getting right, but they do not move the conversation. Behavioural settings do the opposite: they barely show in a preview image, yet they decide almost everything about how a reply lands. Most disappointing characters are the result of an hour spent on the first layer and thirty seconds on the second.
Temperament is the single highest-leverage control. Because warmth, boldness and patience are levels rather than labels, the model receives a range to operate inside instead of a word to perform. A bold setting produces a character who states opinions and occasionally pushes back; a patient one lets a silence sit instead of filling it. Both effects appear within a handful of messages, which makes them easy to verify.
Speech habits are the setting builders most often leave at default, and the reason so many characters flatten out. Sentence length, tolerance for slang and how often she turns a question back on you form the texture you actually read. A vividly designed character with default phrasing sounds like every other character on every other app by the third session, no matter how distinctive the visual side looks.
Testing is short if you know what to test. Greet her and read the opening register. Disagree with something she says and watch whether she folds, holds or escalates. Then leave a message unanswered for a moment and see how she handles the pause. Those three moves expose a mis-set dial faster than an hour of ordinary chatting, and they tell you exactly which one to move.
